NATIONAL TRAILS DAY® EVENT
WHEN: Saturday, June 3, 2017
WHERE: Meadow Woods Preserve, Meadow Road, Pawcatuck
TIME: 2:00 – 3:15 PM
GUIDE: Lisa Wahle, Wildlife Specialist, Contractor to the Wildlife Management Institute at CT DEEP, Wildlife Division
Saturday, June 3rd, is the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®. Throughout the country, on this spectacular day, people of all ages will gather to explore the outdoors, partake of its beauty and meet new friends. The Stonington Land Trust will be hosting one of the thousands of events that will take place.
So, gather with us, please, on this day, as we take an easy, slow-paced hike with Wildlife Specialist, Lisa Wahle, through the 19.18-acres of Meadow Woods. This preserve is mostly wooded, so exploring is generally comfortable, even if the weather is quite warm.
Included on this small, but unique, preserve are two-acres of active farmland, which are farmed by Eugene and Nancy Bessette of Shady Lane Farm. Eugene, a dedicated and enthusiastic farmer, will give a brief presentation about their farming activity. We’re privileged to have Nancy and Eugene on the preserve, and appreciate their responsibly grown produce, which they provide to townsfolk and local grocers.
Come explore this little gem tucked away in the Lower Pawcatuck section of our beautiful town!
We’ll meet at the end of Meadow Road, which is a quiet dead end street off River Road.
Sturdy footgear, binoculars and water are recommended.
Steady rain will cancel. No fee.
All ages welcome!
